Created to be customized and adapted to fit each family’s unique situation, Our Baby is Loved is a playful, yet poignant tool that can help children process and explore the complexity of a serious perinatal diagnosis

about the book

In her work with families in the perinatal and pediatric palliative care sphere, Abigail identified a significant gap in resources for those experiencing medically complicated pregnancies. These are situations where the baby, still alive in utero, faces a high risk of death after delivery. One recurring issue was how parents could communicate the complexities of such pregnancies to their other children, given the uncertainty of the outcome. Abigail provided counseling and coaching on developmentally appropriate methods for sharing this sensitive information and supporting their children. Recognizing the need for a tangible resource, she created Our Baby is Loved. This book aims to empower families to offer honest and compassionate information to their children about the pregnancy's challenges. It includes customizable sections to tailor the conversation to each family's specific situation and loved one, guidance on sharing medical information in a developmentally appropriate manner, and advice on supporting the entire family during this challenging time.
